Dr. Iorhemen’s research lies in the field of Environmental Engineering with a specific focus on biological wastewater treatment, nutrient removal, removal of contaminants of emerging concern from wastewater, resource recovery from wastewater, and development of cost-effective water treatment technologies.

Current research projects include the recovery of curdlan, xanthan, tyrosine, and tryptophan from aerobic granular sludge (AGS), process intensification of drinking water biofiltration for application in rural, remote, and small communities, and recovery of polyhydroxyalkanoates (bioplastics) from wastewater.
